"Are you sure?" she asked again, tilting her head slightly.

"Yes, Mrs. Hill."

I didn't like Mrs. Hill at the time, but now I do. She, too, could have humiliated me in front of the class, if she chose. She, unlike my art teacher, had an innate appreciation for the ridiculous, which, after all, isn't that far removed from the sublime. And you'd think the art teacher, not the math teacher, would be the one to foster my creativity.
